FAQ

Is a written car sale agreement required in Czechia?

For a standard private sale between individuals, a written kupní smlouva is strongly recommended. It documents the price, vehicle details and handover, and serves as evidence of the transaction.

What should be included in a Czech car sale agreement?

At minimum: seller and buyer details, make and model, VIN, mileage, price, payment terms, handover date, known defects and signatures. Our form guides you through these fields in English.

Who handles the vehicle transfer?

After a sale, the existing and new owner generally submit a joint application to record the ownership change, normally within 10 working days. It can be handled at any municipal authority with extended jurisdiction (ORP).

What documents are needed?

For a standard transfer, the Ministry of Transport lists the joint application, original proof of identity, the vehicle registration certificate and the technical certificate if one was issued. The office verifies compulsory insurance and a valid vehicle inspection during processing. A signed contract is useful evidence of the sale, but is not listed as a universally required document for a standard transfer. Check the current requirements before visiting an office.

Can foreigners buy or sell a car in Czechia?

Yes, if you meet the administrative requirements for registration and have valid identification. The contract itself is in Czech; our English form helps you fill it correctly.

Is notarization required?

Usually not for standard private car sales; signatures of both parties suffice.

VIN and odometer?

The form captures VIN, mileage and known defects to reduce disputes.

English annex?

Explanatory only; Czech kupní smlouva prevails.
